The Iowa Eagles

When we were in Iowa for the Easter holiday we took a little side trip to visit the eagles nest that you can follow via Ustream by clicking HERE. I was so suprised when we got there to see that it is located in a tree in someones back yard. From the video I always got the feeling that it was out in the country with a sparsely traveled road going by, but that isn't the case at all. Right across the road was a fish hatchery, which I'm sure the eagles visit on a regular basis, a well traveled walking path and several cars parked with people spending there afternoon watching the eagles. Isn't it funny how you can look at pictures or video and get a picture in your mind how something looks and then it turns out to be comepletly different.

I just got around to uploading my photos to the computer from our last visit to Iowa to see family. And I had to share with you how my sister and I got our teenage kids to hunt for Easter eggs that we scattered around the farm yard. Give them a Kawasaki Mule to drive!! After all the complaining about being to old to go Easter egg hunting I think they had a blast!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I think the weather here in Wisconsin is finally going to warm up. Maybe I can start on the garden this weekend!!

Back To Good Health And Baby Eagles

Sorry I haven't posted in quite awhile but this winter has been extremely nasty for us as far as illnesses. It seems that we just get over one sickness and another one hits us. My youngest son has been on antibiotics way to much. So we are looking forward to warmer weather and perkier days ahead.

I have been checking in a few times a day on a Ustream live video of an eagle sitting on a nest and today is the scheduled day for the babies to hatch. You can see little holes in the eggs when she stands to rearrange the eggs. It will be fun to see the babies when they make their way out of the shell. Get Her Done!!

This poor little bear has been waiting patiently for me to finish her, so I promise this weekend I will get her done.

I promise I won't start this adorable Valentines cross stitch pattern from Brenda Gervais at Country Stitches.

And I will wait until next week to finish these embroidered pillows that I'm going to be putting into my new Etsy Shop (woo hoo)!!

Recovering Nicely

Our little puppy Moe partially tore his ACL in both of his back legs and had surgery on December 23. It has only been 5 days and he seems to be coming along very well. He will get his stitches out in 2 weeks and will be fully functional in 9 weeks. Keeping this active one and a half year old puppy quiet is going to be a challenge so lots of cage time is a must. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Homemade Christmas Decorations

While looking through some of my favorite blogs the other day I saw that Lori Ann Corelis from The Spotted Hare was drying oranges for decorations on her tree. I just loved how they looked, so I decided to give them a try. I had tangerines that were a little past their prime and an extra Christmas tree that usually just has lights on it every year. As I was slicing the oranges I found that I needed to slice mine little thicker due to the squishy factor of the overly ripe oranges, so I might need to bake them a little bit longer. I can't wait to see how they turn out, I will post piccies later when they are on the tree. I have posted the recipe below if you would like to give it a try.

Orange Slice Decorations

Preheat over to 200 degrees
Place thinly sliced oranges on a foil lined cookie sheet
Bake for 1 hour and then turn to other side
Bake for an additional 1/2 hour to 1 hour (keep checking so they don't burn)
Hang from heavy duty string and place on tree.

The kids are home from school today so we decided to make a delicious homemade pizza for lunch. I feel 5 pounds heavier but it was worth every bite. Now I better get to the grocery store for some last minute Thanksgiving dinner supplies. Have a great evening!!!

It has been such a long time since my last post I almost forgot my password. It seems the cold and flu bugs have started early this year in our family. I just got over having bronchitis and now the family is down and out with another upper respiratory nasty disgusting bug. So hopefully by next week I will have more energy and be back to my old self, and with any luck that will be it for the rest of the winter. HA HA!

Last week I made a couple of blankets and pillows for my mom to give away for baby gifts, they turned out so cute. I think I hear an etsy shop calling my name!!! Have a great weekend!!!

Hidden Suprises

As I'm organizing the closet in my studio the other day I came across these adorable little childrens shoes that I had purchased on ebay many many months ago. They must have been very special to someone as they kept the original boxes and there was even a receipt for one pair. The date of sale is from 1946 and the little white sandels were purchased for $1.52 ($.03 cents tax).

It's been so long since I've finished a bear. The kids and I have had a very long winter of sickness, and my energy level wasn't up to where it should be. I think we are over the hump and ready to move ahead full speed.

I took a picture to share of some mohair that I dyed several weeks ago along with my order of excellsior that arrived yesterday. I am really looking forward to sewing and stuffing a new bear, I will share pictures when it's completed.

Christmas Lights!!!

I thought I would go outside and brave the cold to share some pictures of our Christmas decorations. The middle picture are Santas that my fatherinlaw has carved. We have gotten a Santa every year for Christmas for the past 11 years. He told us however that this is the last year he is going to carve them, so I will make sure I share a picture when we get it. Doesn't he do a beautiful job! The Santa on my front door is a quilt that my mother made and I must say I think this is one of my favorite Christmas decorations. As for me I'm still sewing on Christmas presents and with any luck I will get pictures taken soon, or I am going to be in alot of trouble.

I completed this little guy several weeks ago, but due to some computer problems I am just getting around to sharing him. He is 14 inches tall and is filled with excelsior and steel shot and has a very vintage bear look. This was my first time stuffing with excelsior and I must say I really like how he turned out.

Hibiscus Are Blooming

The hibiscus are blooming in our yard and I had to share some pictures with you. Aren't they gorgeous!!! It seems like summer has gone by so fast, the kids start school this week, how is that possible? Dyed Mohair

Yesterday I dyed a couple pieces of mohair the most beautiful color of pink. The two pieces turned out so different, but I love them both. I planned on cutting out a bear today, but it just didn't work out like I planned. We have a busy week ahead so I will see if I can squeeze it in. Have a great evening!!!

Flea Market

I promised pictures of the flea market and here I am two weeks later finally getting them organized. On flea market days we are up at 6 am, hop in the car for a short 30 min drive and we hit the fair grounds ready to shop. It takes us about 5 hours to make it around to all of the vendors and we are totally exhausted by the time we leave. A grilled pork sandwich and a yummy homemade cream puff are in order for the ride home. Now what more could one ask for on a sunny summer day!! This weekend we are at a baseball tournament that my youngest son is playing in. Have a great evening!!!

Yup, that's right. I never really liked the name "Twisted Twig Studios" so I decided to make a change. "The Vintage Bear" suits me much better.
